The £1.8m regeneration scheme included the refurbishment of the existing underpass, hard and soft landscaping, and the installation of architectural lighting and street furniture.

The regeneration project features works by local artist Heather Burrell who is well-known for her floral and foliage metalwork. Her works feature heavily across the London Borough of Lewisham.

The Landscape Institute judges were impressed with the scheme, commenting: ″This is a concept and a design that successfully transformed a space into a place.  It responds to the community needs in a considered, pragmatic and coherent way.″

Sandra Plummer, project manager, London Borough of Lewisham, added: ″We wanted to create a safe, accessible and illuminated route for local residents. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the project team, local residents now have a community space which is bright and welcoming.″
