Shannon, Project Quantity Surveyor

“When I was presented with the opportunity to embark on an apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying with VolkerHighways, I knew that this was the path I wanted to pursue. I am fortunate to have a great team that supports me in my professional journey. Whether it's something related to the job that we're working on together, or something that can help me grow and improve in my studies. Their guidance has been instrumental in my success, and I am grateful for their continued support.”

“I have worked on the Medway highway term maintenance contract since 1994. I started working as an Operative on small schemes and progressed to a Charge Hand (Ganger). With further experience, I was promoted to a Supervisor in 2020. VolkerHighways has supported me throughout my career, and helped me to obtain numerous qualifications. I am now solely responsible for the drainage programme. I love the challenge of my job as each day is different, with new tasks to solve.”

“My favourite part of my role is the challenges that arise. Some can be quick and easy to resolve, whereas others need time and consideration before they are dealt with. I enjoy making business savings, allowing me to see how my role affects the business. I believe my career path is very clear with VolkerHighways. I can see where my next step is which is to become a Buyer and maybe one day, become a Director within Procurement, but I’m taking it one step at a time.”
