The highways term maintenance contract for Medway Council covers all aspects of highway maintenance, day to day repairs, small works, gully emptying, road markings and winter maintenance.

Schemes are carried out on carriageways and footways in a rolling programme of projects that are negotiated during the year. The contract area includes the historic towns of Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Strood, an area dominated by the rivers Medway and Thames.

VolkerHighways is also a sponsor of the Medway Walking Bus Scheme. The scheme, which allows children to walk to school instead of using less environmentally friendly forms of transport, has proven popular in the community.

Phil Moore, head of Highways and Parking Services said: "We are pleased to be continuing our work with VolkerHighways; the team continuously produces excellent results and value for money. We are looking forward to developing the contract further and building on our successful relationship."

Dave Coleman, project manager for VolkerHighways added: "All of us working to deliver the HTMC at Medway are delighted to have been awarded the extension. We have developed a very good relationship with the staff at Medway and we hope to continue our involvement with the Medway Walking Bus Scheme."

This takes our contract with Medway Council to the end of July 2017.
