The first paving stone laid, commemorates the launch of the Music Walk of Fame and the second celebrates musical icons, The Who. The band was selected for the ‘Icon’ category, for their ‘enduring creativity and lifetime achievement’ making them some of the ‘biggest names in music’. Other categories to be added to the walk include Influencers, Innovators, Unsung Heroes, Local Heroes and Artist of the Year, which will be selected by the public.

VolkerHighways is currently providing highways and lighting maintenance services for the London Borough of Camden, as part of their four year maintenance and improvement contract.

Scott Ward, project manager for VolkerHighways, said: “We are delighted to have been a part of this exciting project with London Borough of Camden and to have had the opportunity to lay these first two paving stones to celebrate the borough’s musical legacy.”

Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Cabinet Member for Promoting Culture and Communities, said: “London has some of the finest music heritage in the world, with bands and singers playing Camden venues as a rite of passage on their way to international success. I’m delighted with the reception the Walk of Fame has received and look forward to celebrating the acts and those behind the scenes that have made Camden one of the top destinations for music heritage.”

Further ‘Music Walk of Fame’ paving stones are planned to be laid next year.
