Highway and street lighting term maintenance
VolkerHighways is working on a highway and street lighting maintenance contract with Luton Council which began in 2017. Our collaborative partnership with Luton Council has been verified through BSI ISO 44001 Collaborative Business Relationship standard, which was achieved in 2021.
What we do
In partnership with Luton Council, we deliver all aspects of highway and street lighting maintenance covering 480km of highway along A roads, B roads and rural and urban roads. We provide planned and reactive maintenance, footway improvements, bridge and street lighting maintenance.
Much of our works are cyclical and include drainage maintenance and repairs, winter maintenance, pothole and patching works and a full emergency response service.
Our collaboration includes major projects and professional design services, in association with The Project Centre.
We also undertake a range of public realm improvement schemes and bespoke projects to improve and enhance the local infrastructure.

Placing our community at the heart of our works, we prioritise the employment of local people, work with local supply chain partners and maximise our community contribution through social value activities.

Innovation
We work with our supply chain to source, trial and implement innovative solutions to improve efficiencies and reduce our carbon emissions, while maintaining quality.
This ten-year collaboration with VolkerHighways and the Project Centre, will help us improve the quality of our infrastructure and support the delivery of Luton’s £1.5 billion investment framework.
