Traffic management HS2 – Align JV
In July 2017 the Align joint venture was awarded the C1 package of the UK High Speed 2 line (HS2). C1 consists of 21.6km of high-speed rail infrastructure in a rural environment. This includes a 3.37km viaduct, 16.04km twin-bored tunnel and five vent shafts handling both intervention and tunnel ventilation facilities, running between the Colne Valley and the Chilterns. VolkerHighways’ traffic management division is providing ongoing traffic management expertise for the delivery of the C1 section of HS2.
What we are doing
Our involvement includes the delivery of temporary traffic solutions, TM designs, ongoing maintenance, installation of CCTV, road/lane closures and 24-hour emergency call outs.
Working across all road types, in multiple locations, we use integrated traffic management solutions to meet the needs of each individual scheme. Some locations include:
- Harvil Road – temporary signals and road closures
- M25 Junctions 16-17 anticlockwise – high speed lane closures
- Chesham Lane – road markings, permanent signage and speed limit reduction
- Little Missenden – high speed lane closures
- Moorhall Road – road closure and temporary signals
- A412 North Orbital Road – road closures, temporary signals and new permanent signage
Project successes
Throughout the project, a permanent Supervisor has been seconded into the client team, promoting consistency, efficiency and fostering long-term trust and a collaborative relationship between the business and client. Due to the scheme being extremely high-profile, a diverse and flexible traffic management team has been key to its success by quickly responding to fast-paced project changes and its traffic management requirements.
We believe in the power of the community and the importance of coming together to celebrate or support one another. In partnership with Align, we continue to support numerous events including Christmas market closure in Amersham, Remembrance Parade in Chalfont St Giles and closures for a Coronation Street Party in Chalfont St Giles, to name a few.
